Welcome to the New Site, Same as the Old Site

I made some long overdue changes on the backend. The most important changes are that heathercleary.net and heathercleary.com now:

  • point to the same place
  • can be reliably accessed via HTTPS

You may notice that I am still using the same theme. I don’t care that it is old-fashioned. I love the simple layout and the header image of Edwin Land.

New Kitty

Yes, I finally quenched my kitten lust and got a new cat. Haven’t decided on a name yet, so you can help me decide. Right now I’m calling her Moonshadow,. She’s about 6 weeks old with a white milky coat. I got her from the girlfriend of one of my students; yes, she’s very young, but the girlfriend is moving (and has assured me that that mama cat will be fixed this summer.)

Alas, my apartment is not set up well for separating cats. So far, LilyRocket has been fascinated to bored with the new cat. The only blood shed is mine from the sharp little kitten claws. I hope that they will become friends very quickly.

Here are some pictures from my iPhone; the quality isn’t that great.

Happy Deathday, Allyosha

This morning, I had to put Al to sleep. He threw a blood clot, couldn’t move his back legs, and his heart was also damaged.

Al lived a long and happy life (almost 20 years!) in Chicago, Neenah, Portland, Boston, and Los Angeles. My brother got him from a pound and named him after the youngest of the brothers Karamazov. When Kevin moved to Japan in 1991, I became Al’s custodian. He was so shy that my dormies didn’t see him for the first month. Once Al and Calliope finished their turf war, he began venturing outside my room, then running back inside. He eventually conquered the landing, the stairs, and the first floor. By the end of the year, both cats would chase each other throughout German House.

I love him and miss him.

And here is the most boring video of Al drinking milk. After Calliope died, he became quite insistent that I keep feeding him milk too. It may not be healthy for cats, but it brought him pleasure in his old age.
